Globalisation

1) Is our news influenced by American cultural imperialism? Give some examples arguing for or against this perspective.
In my perspective, I do think that our news is influenced by American cultural imperialism. An example of this would be how during the 2016 election, it continued to make headlines in the UK even though we wasn't familiar with it - Galtung and Ruge's news values. Most recently, another big news story that made big headlines in the UK was the Harvey Weinstein scandal of him being accused of sexual assault and etc.
2) Has the increased globalisation of news improved the audience experience? How? Why?
In terms of the globalisation of news improving the audience experience, I have two different perspectives. I do think that it has improved audience experience in the sense that they are able to receive up to date content; it is almost instantaneous with how fast the news get reported on the media by news institutions and individuals. But however, in terms of local news, not much would be covered and the people that live in those areas depend on few journalists to report on the news.

3) Has globalisation benefited or damaged major news institutions? How? Why?

Globalisation has benefited major news institutions in a way that they are able to receive more stories and contents to report on which leads to more profit being created. Around the world, there are many stories and events that happen which major news institutions such as the ABC news.
