16/09/2017 - Equifax hack puts data of 400,000 UK customers at risk

  • The United States company stated that data of 400,000 UK customers could have been accessed and stolen.
  • The data includes many personal information's such as names, dates of birth, email address and telephone numbers but they stated that it does not contain postal address, passwords nor financial information.
  • The business based in Atlanta discovered the hack back in July but only informed the consumers last week which was on 7th September.
  • They stated that the UK customers affected by this action are unlikely to hit by "Identity takeover".
  • Equifax's president recently made his sincere apology to the customers affected and made sure that the company will help and support those affected.
  • It was also clarified that the UK system of Equifax was not affected but the customers of the UK's data's might have been accessed.
I think that the American business "Equifax" should have informed the consumers earlier considering the fact that they discovered the cyber attack back in July. I don't understand why they would inform the consumers nearly 2 months later. Also, they should have backed up the data using softwares such as Norton or McAfee.
