On 22nd September, it was announced on The Guardian that the Uber company which is an American technology had lost it's license to carry on functioning in London. Uber develops, markets and operates the uber car transportation and food delivery mobile apps.

The Mayor of London and TFL had decided not to license the Uber company to operate in London anymore due to the lack of corporate responsibility which relates to reporting serious criminal offences, obtaining medical certificates and driver background checks.

The chief executive of Uber "Dara Khosrowshahi" did disagree with the rejection of the renewal of the license but did understand that it was due to past behaviour within the Uber company which affected reputation.

  • In London, there are reported to be around 3.5 million users of Uber which use Uber as transport to go to different locations. If the license is not to be renewed even when the appeal is gone, it would be devastating for the customers of Uber.
  • Also, with the employees of Uber, there are reported to be about 40,000 in London which is a staggering amount. The rejection of the license of Uber would mean that all of them will become jobless which would be a negative impact on their life.
In my opinion, I think the decision to be reject the license of Uber is quite is quite shocking in the sense that they have been functioning in London for a long time now. Also, tney have built up a huge profile where they have attracted many customers. They are a very big business in London. But at the same time, the decision was quite understanding because there are many offences when the transport is in place which are not reported. Also, Uber allows anyone to be a driver which is dangerous for the users of Uber.
