NDM: Reading and Blog task

1) Read the first two articles. Write one paragraph on each summing up the key aspects.

Living and Learning in a digital age
This article is essentially about researchers trying to explore and understand how young people use digital media in school, at home and with friends for their learning. Essentially, this article explored the way how many social media platforms are sometimes negative for young people and could influence unacceptable behavior at school or outside school. Students are able to communicate through using social media which would be a negative impact. Also, the young students realised the school's lack of interest in digital culture and the social media and focused other ways to manage it and control how much is used. In conclusion, the school wanted to make sure that digital media wasn't used as often and didn't influence any students in doing wrong things.

The Periscope App
Within this article, we have Pete Turner introduce us the live streaming app "Periscope" and explores and outlines the pros and cons of this app. He looks at how the people live streaming on the app can be easily found with the location without the GPS being turned on which would be frightening as people watching the live show would know where the person is living nearby. However, the pros outlined by Pete Turner within this article is that Periscope allows consumers to see major events on live which they won't miss out. But however, Pete Turner explored how the app could have beneficial impacts on people. It says that with teachers and students, it could help with education and learning in schools. Also, with live streaming, other consumers are able to see an insight in a person's life. In conclusion, Periscope both has pros and cons for the consumers.

2) Now read the A2 A* essay. Why do you think it was so successful?
The A2 A* essay on Spotify was successful because the candidate at first, introduced what the App is and other information's about the app. Then they link to the Spotify's statement of "just help yourself to whatever you want, whenever you want it" and talk about the audience's freedom and power to take over and create their own playlist and etc on Spotify.

She states her own opinion on music not being free is better than music being free which is a huge factor in A2 considering that the students would need to add their own opinion and become more independent with work - giving your own views gives a better impression that you know what the article is about.

Essentially, it was very successful in the sense that the app Spotify does allow consumers to set their own agenda through the accessibility of uploading their own music and creating their own playlist of songs. Spotify allows consumers to access millions of songs which is very different to YouTube in the sense that Spotify consists of songs not out in the mainstream such as YouTube meaning that consumers are able to listen to songs that are not out.

3) Finally, answer this question in a well developed paragraph on your blog: How has digital media changed your life in the last 5 years (for positive or negative)?
-The digital media has changed my life over the last 5 years because in the present, there is not a single day where I don't use social media platforms such as Instagram and Snapchat. I always consume media on my laptop and phone whereas before when I was around 12 - 14, I wasn't really aware of digital media. I wouldn't really pay attention to technologies or any devices as my only routine was to go outside and play football with my friends and come back and watch TV or just go on Laptop. My life routine is essentially wake up and go on my phone to see any notifications or messages on Snapchat, Instagram, YouTube or any other apps I use. It is very hard to detach yourself from digital media as it gives us many pleasures such as entertainment and it helps relieve our stress by consuming media.
